Heavy rain hits Al Ain, motorists cautioned

Various areas in the city of Al Ain, such as Khatam Al-Shakla, Al-Saa/ Malaket and Um Ghafa witnessed heavy rain due to the extension of low pressure from the east extending westward, with an upper air low pressure associated with high and medium clouds and easterly winds with suspended dust during the next days, especially over eastern areas.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) urged individuals to exercise caution while driving in the event of rain, and low horizontal visibility, caused by dusty winds.

The centre indicated that the weather on Sunday was expected to be hazy and partly cloudy to cloudy over some areas. Temperatures could tend to decrease slightly. Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds were in the offing, freshening at times accompanied by suspended dust east and northward at a speed of 18–28km/hr, reaching 38km/hr at times. The sea would be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.

The temperatures on Saturday are expected to be in the range of 32-44ºC in Abu Dhabi, 33-43ºC in Dubai, 32-43ºC in Sharjah, 31-42ºC in Ajman, 32-42 ºC in Umm Al Quwain, 31-43 ºC in Ras Al Khaimah, 31-36 ºC in Fujairah and 33-43 ºC in Al Ain, according to the NCM.

On Monday, the weather was expected to be hazy and partly cloudy to cloudy over some areas, with a probability of convective clouds forming over the eastern mountains, the NCM added.

The winds would be light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly, freshening at times accompanied by suspended dust east and northward at a speed of 20–30km/hr, reaching 40km/hr at times. The sea would be moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Sea of Oman.

An earlier report said the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has predicted that hot weather would prevail in the country during Eid Al Adha holidays from Saturday until Tuesday. The weather was expected to be hot during daytime in general and relatively hot during night, so it was not wise to spend times outdoors in parks during noontime, the NCM added.

The temperatures on Saturday are expected to be in the range of 32-42ºC in Abu Dhabi, 32-47ºC in Dubai, 32-46ºC in Sharjah, 33-44ºC in Ajman, 31-45 ºC in Umm Al Quwain, 33-41 ºC in Ras Al Khaimah, 32-36 ºC in Fujairah and 31-47 ºC in Al Ain, according to the NCM.

Weather was expected to be dusty and partly cloudy to cloudy occasionally in some areas, with the possibility of some cumulus clouds in the afternoon on some eastern and southern parts of the country during that period, according to the NCM.

The Centre has further advised the public to avoid direct sun exposure during the daytime while outdoors.

Also, beach-goers and seafarers were advised not to practise these marine activities at noon, emphasising the need to avoid peak sunlight times at noon, afternoon, and not to be exposed to the sun when swimming.

Moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds were likely, freshening at times causing blowing dust and sand during daytime, with a speed of 20-30km/hr, reaching 40km/hr at times. The sea would be moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea until Saturday, the NCM added.

It further indicated that the country was being affected by an extension of low pressure from east extending westward, with an upper air low pressure associated with high and medium clouds and easterly winds with suspended dust during the end of the period, especially over eastern areas.

“Winds will be moderate and active at times laden with dust, particularly along the northern and eastern parts till Monday with a probability of convective clouds forming over the eastern mountains in the afternoon and the sea will be light to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman,” the NCM added.

On Friday, the weather was expected to be partly cloudy at times and hazy over some areas especially northward and eastward with a probability of some convective clouds formation over eastern mountains by afternoon.
