Dubai Police seize 648kg of drugs in H1

Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, has chaired a meeting for assessing the performance of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control in the first half of this year. The meeting was attended by Brig Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director of the Directorate, Brig Mohamed Rashid Bin Sarea Al Muhairi, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department and number of police station directors and officers.

The meeting discussed the plans and mechanisms of action of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, and the programmes and plans it has put in place to combat narcotics. It further thrashed out the ways to activate the awareness programmes, in addition to reviewing the results of the decisions issued during the previous meeting.

Maj. Gen. Al Marri listened to an explanation from Col. Khalid Bin Muwaiiza, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, on drug cases recorded in Dubai Police during the first half of this year, compared to the first half of last year. He also pointed to the seized quantities of narcotics, number of people involved in drugs cases and their nationalities, and the new methods and attempts they invented to smuggle narcotics. The amount of seized narcotics during the first half of this year reached 648 kilogrammes in total, including cocaine, heroin, crystal, opium and marijuana, Al Muwaiza added.

For the international efforts to combat narcotics,  Colonel Khalid Bin Muwaiiza said that the Dubai Police General Headquarters spares no effort to combat drugs internationally, believing that the drug issue is a cross-border issue that requires international cooperation to combat and eliminate it. In the first half of this year, the Dubai Police provided 82 countries with important information, leading to the arrest of 23 defendants and the seizure of 330 kilogrammes of drugs.

The public administration also succeeded in monitoring and blocking 20 websites promoting drugs during the first half of this year.

Maj. Gen Al Marri also reviewed the statistics of Hemaya International Center. The Center organized the “Spring Vacation” programme with the participation of 195 students from various schools in the emirate of Dubai belonging to 20 nationalities trained in sports, horse riding, health care, and other various activities.

The Centre organized the 14th International Hemaya Forum with the participation of 1,200 participants, during which 14 working papers were discussed, and six workshops were held.
