A three-year-old Emirati boy was run over and killed by a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old citizen, near his family home in Umm Ghafa, Al Ain City. The deceased was crossing a two-way road.
The driver immediately took the child to the nearest health centre in an attempt to save him, but he succumbed to serious injury.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohsen Al Mansouri, Deputy Director of Al Ain Traffic Department attributed the cause of the accident to negligence as the driver did not pay attention.
Expressing his deep regret over the incident, Al Mansouri said that it is very sad when a child faces such traumatic accidents due to the recklessness of some drivers.
He further said neglecting children and leaving them on the roads exposes parents to legal accountability, calling for not allowing children to cross the streets alone and paying more attention to them.
