Sultan approves over 800 scholarships for AUS, UoS

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah, approved 825 scholarships from the Emiri Court for the Bachelor’s programme at the University of Sharjah (UoS) and the American University of Sharjah (AUS).

This was announced by Dr Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, in a telephone conversation with Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary General of Sharjah Media Council, via the Direct Line Programme broadcast live on Sharjah Radio and TV.

“As his habit for over two decades now, Sheikh Sultan approves a number of scholarships at the beginning of every academic year. Some 806 scholarships have been approved for the University of Sharjah including 107 for Sharjah students who are the high school graduates of the academic year 2018-2019, 478 scholarships for Sharjah high school graduates of previous years, 52 scholarships for Sharjah Emirati women’s children, 71 scholarships for the children of the Government of Sharjah personnel, 57 scholarships for the children of Sharjah mosque imams, 38 scholarships for the Disability Resource Centre and 3 scholarships required by the Sharjah Social Services Department for adopted children,” Al Naimiy said.

Sheikh Sultan also approved 256 scholarships for higher studies at the University of Sharjah. These included 218 students in the Masters programmes and 38 students in the PhD programmes.

This adds to the 710 scholarships that Sheikh Sultan approved three days ago, bringing to 1,915 the total scholarships approved by Sheikh Sultan.

Meanwhile, Sharjah Broadcasting Authority published a list of books that Sheikh Sultan promised to talk about in his telephone conversation with the Direct Line Programme on Monday. The list of books recommended for those who are about to get married include among others ‘The Book of The Family and its Psychological Health’ by Mustafa Hijazi, ‘The Family and Child’s Education’ by Dr Huda Mahmoud Al Nashif, ‘Society and Family in Islam’ by Muhammed Tahir Al Jawabi, ‘Psychology of Family Relations’ by Dr Sergei Kovalev, ‘Family System between two Civilizations’ by Sameh Abdul Salam Mohammed, and ‘Family Relations between Theory and Practice’ by Dr Zainab Mohammed Haqqi and Dr Nadia Hussain Abu Sakina.

Recently Sheikh Sultan announced the allocation of Dhs550 million for scientific research at AUS over the next five years.

The announcement came during a speech delivered by His Highness in the presence of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, during the university’s spring 2019 graduation ceremony held at the University City Hall in Sharjah.

A total of 610 students graduated in the spring batch which included 536 Bachelor’s degree, and 74 of master’s degree.

Sheikh Sultan congratulated the graduates, and said, “When we created the American University of Sharjah, more than 20 years ago, our goal was not only to prepare young people, but also to prepare educated generations, open horizons in keeping with the developments of the times, always seeking to acquire science and knowledge and looking for creativity.”

He added that some graduates have participated in academic conferences, competed in international competitions in all fields, and got first and advanced positions, not only in the region but globally as well.

He pointed out that the university is progressing towards achieving the objectives of its strategic plan in the field of scientific research. It has supported the research of members of the academic faculty in different fields. The results of researches were presented in various scientific conferences and published in several important scientific journals, he noted.

The Sharjah Ruler shared with the audience the current plans and achievement of the university. “This year, the University launched a Bachelor’s programme in psychology, started a specialised programme in data science, and is preparing to open the new additional building for the Engineering College in the next academic semester,” he added.
