Four in court after allegedly stealing, stabbing

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard on Tuesday morning the case of four African defendants accused of stealing mobile phones and cash from a male compatriot after battering him up and stabbing him with a knife.

The primary defendant denied the charges. He said he was trying to defend his wife after the victim beat her up and tried to stab her with a knife.

The other defendants also denied the charges. They said they were not present during the incident.

The fourth defendant asked the Court to summon the plaintiff to prove he was not at the scene at the time of the incident. All defendants have requested the Court to release them on bail.

The Court has decided to postpone the verdict to Sept.19.

Separately, an Asian worker died after a vehicle hit him on Al Dhaid-Al Suhaila road in Sharjah on Tuesday.

The Central Region Comprehensive Police Station received a report that an Asian worker in his thirties was hit by a vehicle driven by a Gulf citizen while crossing Al Dhaid-Al Suhaila main road.

Traffic patrol and ambulance vehicles rushed to the scene and found the worker had succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to the hospital. The worker had sustained severe brain haemorrhage and multiple fractures all over his body. He was admitted to Al Dhaid Hospital before his body was delivered to his parents.

In an unrelated event, the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court began on Tuesday morning the trial of an Arab national accused of blackmailing a woman.

The defendant reportedly hacked the woman’s personal account, obtained private photos of her, and threatened and blackmailed her to publish those pictures, unless she took photos of herself  in indecent positions and send them to him.

The accused denied the charges in the court.

The Court has ordered to defer the case to Sept.11 based on the defence’s request.
