Rare coins highlight region’s rich history

The first ever Ajman Philatelic and Numismatic Exhibition, being held in Ajman from Sept.3-7, has been attracting a significant number of amateur stamp and coin enthusiasts from the UAE and overseas.

Organised by Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) in cooperation with Emirates Philatelic Association, attracted significant number of visitors, the exhibition has attracted more than 75 exhibitors and traders from the UAE and GCC countries. The exhibition includes a large collection of rare coins and precious postage stamps that tell the story of the UAE and the region’s history and development over the decades.

ATDD Director General Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry said, “Ajman is a unique tourist, cultural and historical destination that attracts distinguished events and exhibitions such as Ajman Philatelic and Numismatic Exhibition, which is being held for the first time and which reflects the UAE and the region’s cultural achievements and historical events.”

Saud Al Jasmi, Saud director of events section, said that this specialised exhibition is a valuable addition to the events hosted by Ajman. “With this exhibition, we look forward to contributing to the spread of this hobby and to attracting enthusiasts to Ajman while reviving the heritage and cultural history represented by the stamps and coins,” he added.

The exhibition offers visitors with extensive information about the UAE and Gulf’s cultural heritage through stamps and postal materials – some of which are from a period before the UAE was formed.

The exhibition that introduces rare stamps and coins reflecting the UAE’s past and present is an ideal opportunity for stamp and coin collectors and amateurs to communicate, to exchange, buy and sell stamps and coins, and to identify rare and valuable collections of postage stamps.
