The Fujairah Criminal Court sentenced a housemaid to 7 years in jail on arson charges.
According to the official records, the defendant had been working in her sponsor’s house for a while and on the day of the incident she brought a lighter and a flammable liquid and set fire to a cupboard containing garments in one room of the house.
The sponsor’s wife rushed to the place when she saw the smoke in the room and told her husband accordingly. The sponsor brought a fire extinguisher and was able to put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the room. He later called the police who examined the place where they found the tool used in the crime and arrested the housemaid.
Recently, the Fujairah Criminal Court heard the case of four young Arabs charged with attempted theft, drinking and possession of alcohol. Details of the case date back to when the suspects went to Fujairah from Dubai to spend the weekend with a carton full of bottles of wine.
They reportedly rented an apartment where they spent the night and drank alcohol.
At midnight, the first suspect thought of robbing a jewellery store opposite the building they stayed in and agreed with his friends to carry out the crime.
The suspects headed to the store and broke its door with a piece of iron trying to break into it, but a passerby saw them and immediately contacted the police. The police rushed to the place and arrested them.
All of them turned out to be drunk and were referred to the prosecution, where they were charged with attempted theft, drinking and possession of alcohol.
Recently, a Gulf youth was charged with impersonating a policeman, blackmailing and drinking alcoholic beverages, the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court heard in a session.
According to the official records, the defendant chased a truck driver and ordered him to stop after claiming to be a policeman.
