Sharjah celebrates Kenya Heritage Week

The Kenya Heritage Week, part of the “World Heritage Weeks” programme is being held by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, under the patronage of Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) and Mohammed Noor Adan, Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of Dr Rashid Al Naqbi, Chairman of Khorfakkan Municipal Council and a number of directors of departments and department officials at the Institute.

In an effort to exchange knowledge, expertise and experience, to help in the preservation and maintenance of heritage for future generations, Kenya Heritage Week has launched a series of events in Sharjah as part of “The World Heritage Weeks Programme.”

The event titled “World Heritage in Sharjah” is being held at the Cultural Heritage Center “Al Bait Al Gharbi” from September 10 to 14, from 5:00 pm till 9:00 pm, and will recognise various elements of the Kenyan heritage, folk arts, music and ancient civilization.

Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage stated that events under “The World Heritage Week” are launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah as part of Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s activities.

The goal is to showcase the heritage and culture of countries across the world and exchange Arab and international experiences allowing everyone from across the world to experience these cultures in its various kinds and forms.

Al Musallam added, “Hosting Kenya at the World Heritage Week, gives visitors the opportunity to learn about Kenya’s rich heritage and deep historical roots. Kenya is home to a number of civilisations since ancient times, some going back two million years.
