A legal translator and his ex-wife were embroiled in a fight and exchange of obscenities during which she tried to knife him to death, a gathering heard on Sunday.
The Arab translator, 41, and woman, 34, were referred to the Dubai Criminal Court over the scuffle they had inside the parking lot of a building in Al Rifa’a area where the translator worked, as per his complaint.
Records showed that when both broke up, the translator reportedly remained with private photos and documents of the woman. She on Jul.16 pursued and intercepted him before he could get out of his car.
Prosecutors said she issued verbal threats to him saying, “Come down with me now. Give me my photos and papers or else I kill you.” She then rained blows on him inflicting him with injuries that took days to heal.
She also flipped him off. He in retaliation pelted her with an obscene word targeting her honour, then beat her up and inflicted her with injuries that took several days to heal.
The hearing was adjourned till Oct.6.
In police and prosecution records, the translator complained that he had just arrived at the parking lot of his workplace when the woman showed up. She suddenly opened and sat in the front passenger seat.
She started talking to him with a loud voice. She threatened to assault him to death unless he stepped out of the car with her and handed her private photos and papers that he remained with after their breakup.
“I was astonished to see her pulling out a knife from her handbag,” he said. “She tried to stab me in the chest but I warded off the strike with my hand.
She then tried to stab me in the face. I also pushed the knife away.”
She stepped out of the car and disappeared from the parking lots.
The translator sustained a cut. Three days later, he resolved to report the incident. He went to Al Rifa’a Police Station seeking police help to rein her in.
