Election Committees in various electoral zones of Sharjah – Sharjah City, Khorfakkan, Kalba, Al Bataeh, Maliha, Dibba Al Hisn, Al Hamriya and Dhaid – started registering citizens in large numbers for the upcoming elections of the Sharjah Consultative Council.
The first day of voter registration on Sunday witnessed a large turnout of citizens, demonstrating their keenness to be part of the decision-making process in the emirate and contribute to the success of the electoral process.
The first day of registration at Sharjah Municipality was attended by a number of department heads and officials in Sharjah, asserting the importance of all nationals participating in the parliamentary exercise, which allows citizens to help make a meaningful difference.
The direct elections are being held in the emirate for the second time under the guidance and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He has been keen to involve the citizens in the emirate’s governance and journey of progress in order to enhance their way of life.
In this context, the Higher Committee for Sharjah Consultative Council Elections has been sparing no effort to facilitate the critical phase of registration of citizens as voters as smoothly as possible at election centres across the Emirate.
The first stage of voter registration for the SCC polls began on Sept.1 with the launch of an interactive online application, remarkably simplifying the registration process. This phase of manual voter registration complements the first phase and offers the citizens a choice to register themselves in the traditional way.
Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Member of Higher Committee for SCC Elections and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, praised the huge turnout of citizens at registration centres throughout the emirate, underscoring their enthusiasm to exercise their precious vote and have their say in the electoral process to choose their representatives for the august body of Sharjah Consultative Council.
