A gang of three men who broke into a Dubai villa and decamped with Dhs355, 000 valuables were on Wednesday sent to spend three years behind bars.
The Asian trio –a visitor, 38, an unemployed colleague, 45, and another visitor, 39- made their way into the villa of an Arab man in Al Safa area at around 9pm on June 23. They entered through the kitchen’s window.
They stole Dhs130, 000 bags, Dhs140, 000 gold and diamond jewellery, a Dhs47, 000 watch, Dhs3, 000 shoes, a Dhs25, 000 mobile phone, Dhs3, 600 sunglasses and Dhs6, 600 wallets belonging to the man and his wife.
A corporal said police arrested them in Jumeirah. They confessed saying they used a screwdriver to break in. They said a countrywoman helped them smuggle the items abroad. They will be deported after the jail term.
In a separate robbery case, a labourer attacked a couple with a broken bottle and decamped with Dhs2, 000.
The Criminal Court on Wednesday sent him to spend six months in the dock after which he will be deported.
The 25-year-old Asian defendant attacked the Bangladeshi electrician, 30, and his wife –an Indonesian maid, 28- inside a flat in Nahdah at around 5:30am on Feb.24, they complained to Al Qusais Police Station.
On the record, the defendant rang the apartment door bell and knocked it several times. The wife opened and saw him. He was carrying a bottle. He made his way inside the apartment brandishing the bottle.
He demanded her to surrender all valuables in her possession. She said she had nothing. He tried to pull off her golden ring. She resisted. He broke the bottle and stabbed her left arm with it. Her husband intervened.
He tried to subdue the defendant who then beat and stabbed him causing him injuries all over his right arm, back and check. The defendant after failing to take the ring searched bags and stole the wife’s Dhs2, 000.
