‘UAE firm on making the world free of polio’

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has confirmed the UAE’s determination to exert more efforts and continue to work for a world free of polio.
“On World Polio Day, we renew our commitment to eradicating polio. Together with our partners and in collaboration with local communities, we can end polio and ensure a healthy future for the next generation,” Sheikh Mohamed tweeted on Wednesday.
Marking the World Polio Day, Sheikh Mohamed attached to his tweet an introductory video clip on the UAE’s efforts in fighting polio.
The video clip revealed that the UAE achieved tremendous progress in this connection with the UAE National Polio Immunization Campaign delivering around 417 million doses of polio vaccines since 2014 and mobilised 106,000 health workers in the local communities for the vaccines to be delivered to around 16 million children in Pakistan monthly.
ADNOC and its group companies and the Abu Dhabi Global Market, ADGM, have celebrated the World Polio Day, which falls on 24th October every year.
The two headquarters in Abu Dhabi were lit with the World Polio Day’s hashtag “#endPolio” to celebrate this important occasion as the world is inching closer to eradicating the disease, which has long threatened the future of children in many countries and in the light of the UAE’s initiatives to fight Polio for the benefit of 400 million children annually across the world.
This also reflects the country’s commitment to the humanitarian approach and principle aimed to help the needy people, promote human development programmes, maintain safety and health, and provide adequate health care service to the children around the world.
As a result of these initiatives - led by Sheikh Mohamed - around 400 million children globally have received the necessary vaccines to prevent the spread of Polio.
Since 2014, the Initiative of Sheikh Mohamed for Global Polio Eradication has helped provide over 71 million children in Pakistan with vital Polio vaccines.
