An Arab national drowned after being caught up by sea waves on the beach of the hotel he worked for in Al Aqah area near Dibba City.
An official source at the hotel said the deceased, Amam, who worked in the field of food and beverages was on his duty, on Tuesday, in the courtyard of the hotel overlooking the seaside, when he was besieged by the sea waves which he tried to avoid, but they swept him away, resulting in his death.
It is noteworthy that the fishing ports in the cities and areas of the east coast were severely damaged due to the high water level inside the ports where the waves exceeded the rock barriers surrounding them, resulting in breaking of boat docks and their collision.
Fujairah Government’s Department of Public Works and Agriculture on Wednesday established rock barriers at Al Rigailat Beach instead of the earth barriers constructed on Tuesday to repel the waves which broke the barriers and covered the Corniche road.
Salim Mohamed Ali Al Mukasah, General Manager, Fujairah Department of Public Works and Agriculture said the tidal waves which hit the beaches of Fujairah from Tuesday morning until midday of Wednesday contributed to breaking the earth barriers. He indicated that teams of the department were deployed along the beaches and drew the running water in front of the Diamond hotel.
Recently, Abdullah Mohammed Ali Al Makhmari, an Emirati, 38, and his son Saif, 7, drowned in Al Shalila Sea in Abu Dhabi. Saif and his elder brother Mohammed were swimming when the sea swept them away. The father jumped immediately into the sea and was able to rescue Mohammed but he could not save the other son. Subsequently they both drowned together.
Ahmed Ali Al Makhmari, the deceased father’s uncle, said his nephew had 7 children including 4 sons and 3 daughters, adding that he gave the finest examples of courage while trying to rescue his sons.
The father and his two sons went for swimming in Al Shalila Sea at around 5pm on Saturday. The sea swept away the elder son Mohammed but the father rescued him to safety. During that time, the undercurrents dragged the other son Saif farther into the sea so the father swam immediately again towards his other son. Unfortunately, his rescue attempt was not successful and consequently the father and his son Saif drowned.
