Sharjah’s Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) is participating in the 38th edition of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) at Expo Centre Sharjah.
On the first day of the Sharjah International Book Fair, which is organised by Sharjah Book Authority, EPAA launched an illustrated guide to the plants of Sharjah.
The authority is displaying plant samples, photographs of the plants at the Islamic Botanical Garden, and brochures and information about Wasit Wetland Nature Reserve, Musnad Protected Area, Ed Dhelaimah Nature Reserve and other Protected Areas in Sharjah.
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, EPAA Chairperson, said, “EPAA is keen to participate in SIBF as one of the government’s stands at the exhibition. EPAA’s stand includes introductory and educational publications and brochures, and examples of plants that will grow even indoors with clear instructions. This year, new additions include the launch of “An Illustrated Guide to the Plants of Sharjah” and information about the Nature Reserves.”
SIBF is an opportunity to meet and interact with readers, authors, publishers and other professionals in the book industry. Al Suwaidi added, “When we think of SIBF’s success and its reputation as one of the three most important book fairs in the world, we must remember the great support and care of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who is a patron of culture.”
“An Illustrated Guide to the Plants of Sharjah” was produced by Salma Tunaiji and Iman Al Tunaiji, researchers at EPAA’s Department of Biodiversity. The book includes information about more than 100 plants found in the Emirate of Sharjah’s desert and mountains, including their common and scientific names, a description of each plant’s habitat, importance and uses and clear photographs taken by the researchers.
