The Sheikh Sultan Award for Celebrating the “Spirit of Youth” has extended the deadline of submission to Nov.30, in a bid to allow more young people from all backgrounds and nationalities residing in the UAE to participate. Hundreds of entry forms have poured in since registration opened in early February this year.
Those in the 13–18 age group are eligible to submit applications in as many of the four award categories as they want, which are volunteering, adventure, skills and hobbies. The application packet can be uploaded on the award’s website www.sheikhsultanaward.ae and contain both documents and videos reflecting the applicant’s personal achievements in the categories they apply to.
In our highly competitive world, where young students are constantly under pressure to be better than their peers, Sheikh Sultan Award for Celebrating the “Spirit of Youth” encourages each applicant to challenge themselves for the betterment of their own skills and improve their mental and physical performances, rather than competing with others. The objective of the award is to honour the UAE youth’s extra-curricular excellence and achievements in a non-competitive environment, and seeks to highlight the importance of valuing the individual talents and efforts of young generations equally, without comparison.
Launched by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the award aims to build a generation of young leaders who are generous, wise, empathic, responsible and confident about their abilities. It encourages participants to invest in their efforts to excel in their chosen fields, so they can innovate and contribute to the well-being of their societies. The award offers participants three levels of recognition – gold, silver and bronze.
It recognises the efforts of young people of all nationalities in the UAE, and encourages them to tap into their unique potential in non-academic pursuits so as to become well-rounded professionals and citizens, and achieve success in all walks of life.
The award was launched last February, with the honouring of the first 42 participants across all categories.
