More than 80 world-class musicians, including members of London’s iconic Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, have collaborated to compose an inspiring original score for ‘Legacy of Our Ancestors’ — the Official 48th UAE National Day celebration – on Dec.2 at Zayed Sports City Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
Created by eight international composers, the original ‘Legacy of Our Ancestors’ score will add a dramatic dimension to an epic theatrical show unfolding on one of the largest and most complex stage sets ever built for a UAE National Day celebration.
Drawing inspiration from distinct Emirati elements and featuring musical instruments unique to the UAE, the original score will merge traditional Emirati music with contributions from leading international musicians from across the globe.
“Music is a key component of any theatrical production and the original score for ‘Legacy of Our Ancestors’ will elevate the overall impact and beauty of the production,” said Saeed Al Suwaidi, Representative of the Organising Committee of the Official 48th UAE National Day Celebration, ‘Legacy of Our Ancestors’.
“The UAE is a harmonious and tolerant home to hundreds of nationalities and cultures, which has influenced the composition of the original score. The soundtrack will be rooted in the Emirates, with contributions by some of the world’s leading composers and musicians.
“This will be an unprecedented audio-visual experience for a UAE National Day celebration, and it is an honour to work with distinguished names and world-class music professionals to create something special that will leave long in the memory,” added Al Suwaidi.
The exceptional auditory experience will be delivered by more than 250 high-quality speakers connected by over 12 kilometres of cabling, a technical set-up that will guarantee every melodious note and intricate musical arrangement captivate spectators and make for a truly breathtaking experience.
Taking place on a gigantic 10,000-square metre parametric stage and set created by expert craftspeople in nine global cities, ‘Legacy of Our Ancestors’ will be enhanced by more than 2,500 hidden LED lights to enhance the visual experience. In total, 22 huge visual screens climbing 12 metres high will display charming hand-drawn animations and stunning cinematic sequences throughout the production.

An earlier report said the showpiece of the official 48th UAE National Day celebration will feature stories from the UAE’s past that showcase the country’s values long-embedded in its heritage and culture, organisers say.
"The epic scale of this production, coupled with the rich tapestry of values derived from our most precious of stories, will ensure ‘Legacy of our Ancestors’ reaches a theatrical level never experienced before in the UAE. The show will create a sense of pride, which will live for many years to come and serve as a fitting masterpiece for the official 48th UAE National Day Celebration," said Saeed Al Suwaidi.
Inspired by local folklore, ‘Legacy of our Ancestors’ will take spectators on a historical exploration of the UAE’s values, which remain the cornerstone of this country. The timeless narrative will be brought to life under the special effects of the moon through live performances, digital art, visual and sound effects.
The audience will be immersed in stories of courage and pride, about people who are resilient and resourceful, honourable and devoted. The performances will encapsulate the greatness of the UAE’s ancestors, a spirit that has carried through today and will into the future.
"With more than 200 nationalities proudly calling the UAE home, our National Day remains a much-loved calendar date for Emiratis and expatriates alike. As Abu Dhabi continues to attract a growing number of regional and international visitors, we hope ‘Legacy of our Ancestors’ will shine a greater light on the stories of our past that continue to shape our future," Al Suwaidi concluded.
