The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation has upheld the verdict of the appellate court sentencing a suspect. The initial sentence is to pay a fine of Dhs82,000 and deportation on charges of counterfeiting a rental contract in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and seizing the rent amount from his employer.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with seizing Dhs82,000 after he submitted a forged lease proving he rented a house inside the city of Abu Dhabi, which was not true.
The Court of First Instance sentenced the suspect in absentia to three years in jail and a fine of Dhs82,000. The court also ordered the confiscation of the copy of the forged contract and the deportation of the suspect, besides paying the case fees.
The suspect appealed the verdict, and the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance sentenced him to one year in jail and upheld the payment of the fine.
Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal accepted the appeal, cancelled the imprisonment and obligated the suspect to pay the fine, after which the suspect was ordered to be deported and pay the case fees.
The suspect appealed again to the Court of Cassation and the Cassation prosecution filed a memorandum demanding that the appeal be rejected.
