Sheikh Sultan meets Sharjah triennial task force team

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received on Wednesday Morning the task force team of “Rights of Future Generations” of Sharjah Architecture Triennial, in attendance of Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Board of Directors of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial.
His highness received the group at Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (Al Darah) where he welcomed them to Sharjah and thanked them for their inspirational work that would lead to initiatives and programmes aiming to encourage communities and states to think seriously of the importance of preserving the rights of the generations to come.
His Highness explained to the task force team the development movement and the cultural project of the emirate of Sharjah that started in the 1970s when he famously said: “Let’s stop the concrete revolution, and let’s start a culture revolution”. Thus, culture march was launched and planning started and continued over the subsequent 40 years during which, Sharjah was honoured with many titles; last of which was Sharjah being named the World Book Capital.
His Highness noted that the meeting with the task force team aims to discuss the possible contributions to provide better lives for individuals and communities. He also highlighted the importance of taking a stand that guarantees the rights of the future generations in various aspects of life.
Thabo Mbeki, former President of South Africa, highlighted the importance of such meetings and initiatives and thanked the Ruler of Sharjah for inviting him to participate in this important event, which seeks to provide a better life for future generations.
Dilma Rousseff, Former President of Brazil, expressed her pride at joining the task force team of this initiative aiming to safeguarding the rights of future generations, as she thanked His highness for his continued support for cultural and educational projects in UAE and beyond.
She also stressed the importance of international collaborations through agreements based on social movements and scientific evidence to launch initiatives that preserve the world heritage and resources.
The meeting discussed several issues pertaining to global challenges related to preserving the world to the future generations.
His Highness joined the delegation in a tour of the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (Al Darah), where the delegation was briefed on the most important historical documents and manuscripts about the Arab history and the history of the Gulf, as well as the halls that include various medals and souvenirs received by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah from different heads of state and international organisations and universities.
Earlier, Sheikh Sultan confirmed that the Emirate of Sharjah has taken care of the “Rights of Future Generations” and paid attention to building human beings and creating a generation with knowledge and innovative thoughts, able to work hard to enjoy a better life.
This came during a speech delivered by the Ruler of Sharjah on Tuesday at the opening of the sessions of the working group, “Rights of Future Generations”, within the activities of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial in the Africa Hall in Sharjah.
Sheikh Sheikh Sultan stressed during his speech that Sharjah believes in future generations, and added that “we are working and have been exerting efforts for decades to fulfil the most important rights for future generations.
“Our first concern in Sharjah was building human beings right from birth, and we continue to offer them opportunities for community participation from a young age through the Children’s Consultative Council and the Arab Children’s Parliament in Sharjah,” he said.
Affirming his support for efforts to reduce global warming by establishing and backing projects aimed at sustainability and addressing environmental problems in Sharjah, His Highness urged everyone at all levels to work together and seriously.
