Dhs97.5m project to ease traffic on key road

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) at the Department of Municipalities and Transport has accomplished the traffic improvement project on Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street (Eastern Mangroves Road) with a length of 10km, one lane, at a cost of Dhs97.5 million.
The geographical scope of the project included the intersection of Ministries Street to the intersection of Qasr Al Bahr Street, while Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street has been expanded from Dhafir Street to Salama Bin Butti Street, adding a lane to become 5 lanes instead of 4, aiming at accommodating traffic density at peak times and reducing traffic jams.
The Centre emphasised its commitment to provide the highest standards through the management and implementation of service projects for community members, to reach the highest levels of excellence, and to meet the services needed by community members.
The ITC noted the road improvement work of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street included a traffic flow control signalling system, known as Ramp Metering at all entrances to Sheikh Zayed Road, which will reduce the flow of traffic on the street at peak times, which in turn will reduce traffic congestion.
Recently, the Ministry of Interior (MoI), had made the service of reporting traffic accidents available through its electronic application.
The MoI stated that could be done through three steps: spotting the accident, entering the vehicle data with pictures of the damaged parts, and other data of the other vehicle with pictures of the damaged parts also.
The application can be used on smart phones, smart watches and tablets where users get many necessary services and run the work of their institutions with ease, coping with the slogan of the application “Our services in your hands”, as a contribution by the MoI to make the UAE, one of the best countries in the world in regard with electronic services. The ministry said the application can be used by individuals and companies, where it enables them to benefit from the services provided by four main sectors of the MoI, Traffic and Licencing, Civil Defence, Naturalisation and Residency, and Police Commanders.
