Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais area records 5˚C

The weather on Saturday is expected to be fair to partly cloudy in general, especially over the sea and some eastern and western areas with a probability of some light rainfall, according to The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).  The Centre also noted that the lowest temperature recorded in the country on Friday morning was 5.2 ºC at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 6.15 am.

Winds will be moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times, with a speed of 20–30, reaching 38km/hr at times. Sea will be moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

The temperatures on Saturday are expected to be in the range of 17-27ºC in Abu Dhabi, 18-27 ºC in Dubai, 15-26 ºC in Sharjah, 17-25 ºC in Ajman, 16-26 ºC in Umm Al Quwain, 15-25 ºC in Ras Al Khaimah, 19-26 ºC in Fujairah and 15-26 ºC in Al Ain, according to the NCM.

It also indicated, “The weather on Saturday is expected to be fair to partly cloudy in general, clouds will increase gradually especially westward and over islands and some eastern areas, with a probability of some rainfall. Moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times, with a speed of 20–30, may reach 45km/hr at times. Sea will be moderate in the Arabian Gulf and may become rough at times and moderate in Sea of Oman.”

Separately, the emergency teams at the Sharjah Municipality withdrew 7,000 tanker loads of rainwater that fell on the country due to the low air pressure.

The said teams continued to work until dawn in order to withdraw water from the streets and areas that lack drainage facilities in order to preserve safety of the public and property, and enhance the traffic flow. Moreover, the Sharjah Municipality handled 420 complaints during the past two days.

Thabit Salem Al Tarifi, Director General of Sharjah Municipality and Chairman of the Municipality’s Rain Emergency Committee, said that the teams had made a great job and remained in the field to withdraw water from various areas, and handle all complaints received from the public through the Municipality’s communication channels.

They were equipped with the necessary equipment of tanks and pumps, he added.

For his part, Eng. Hassan Al Taffaq, Assistant Director-General of the Agriculture and Environment Division, said that the teams tackled the rainwater with high efficiency, after they were deployed in various areas of the emirate and began to withdraw water from the main streets. They pulled more than 7,000 loads, and dealt with some damage such as fall of some trees, which were immediately removed, he added.
