Ajman begins work on Dhs233m road projects

Dr Eng Mohammed Bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Engineering Affairs Sector at the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman has revealed the implementation of new road projects within the infrastructure development plans in the emirate, at a total cost of Dhs233 million.

The first phase of the projects includes the development of Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Street, and the development of the Rashidiya intersection.

Al Muhairi stressed these projects are implemented upon the directives of His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Ajman, adding that their implementation are overseen by Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Chairman of the Executive Council.

Al Muhairi clarified the Department is currently working on preparing the necessary studies for the development of Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Street starting from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Street, “Sheikh Ammar Bridge” to its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Street “Al Rawdah Interchange”, at a length of 4.5 kilometres.

The Sheikh Humaid Street project includes the construction of three lanes in each direction, the development of intersections, organising parking, the implementation of a rainwater drainage network and lighting and traffic control works, at a cost of Dhs133 million.

The study is expected to be completed current December, provided that the project will be submitted to the contractor and the implementation will be started during 2020, and it is expected to be completed at the end of 2021.

Al Muhairi, “The Department handed over the project to develop the Rashidiya intersection to the contractor to start the establishment of a group of bridges to connect Khalifa Street with Abdullah Bin Aboud Street and Badr Street, aiming to accommodate future traffic, and achieve a smooth flow of traffic in all directions at the Rashidiya Bridge intersection.”

The total length of the bridges is 3 kilometres, at a total cost of Dhs100 million. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Al Muhairi also indicated that the Department is currently working on 5 projects to develop major roads in many areas with a total cost of Dhs334.5 million, including the establishment of a group of individual internal roads in the Helio region at a total cost of Dhs8 million, where the completion rate exceeded 20%. The roads will reportedly be opened at the beginning of 2020.

The cost of the second stage of developing and constructing a group of single roads in Al Nuaimiya area is Dhs130 million, and the stage has been completed, while the other stages will be implemented in the coming period.

“The Department has established many pedestrian bridges, including one on Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Street in the Al Nakhil area, at a total cost of Dhs1.5 million, with a completion rate which exceeded 50%. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.” Al Muhairi explained.

He added the Department completed the first stage of the development of Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street at a total cost of Dhs150 million. The street has already been opened to traffic.

The project includes the development of Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street starting from its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa Street, “bridge 4 to the creek signal (intersection of Rashid Bin Saeed street with Anas Bin Malik Street), at a length of 5.2 kilometres, where a new lane was added from the free zone side, and a service road was established. Also, parks were organised from Sheikh Khalifa intersection to Diwan Roundabout, with the construction of a bridge at the intersection of Al Khor.

The Municipal Department is also working on lighting Al Khail and Al Musala streets with energy-saving LED technology, at a cost of Dhs500,000. It is also working to replace the high-energy sodium lanterns with energy-saving LED ones on Hassan Al Basri Street and Masfout Street, in addition to installing lighting posts and energy-saving lanterns in Masfout with a length of 650 metres.
