The traffic patrols at the Umm Al Quwain Police have caught the driver who hit a woman riding a bicycle and fled the scene, the police confirmed on Friday evening. The driver has been monitored and arrested within three hours from occurrence of the accident.
According to Col. Saeed Obaid Bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department in Umm Al Quwain, the operations room was alerted about a European woman found lying injured on the ground after a car hit her while cycling on a public road, while her bike was completely damaged. It was also reported that the driver fled the scene, he added.
“Instantly, the traffic patrols rushed to the location of the accident, where the woman was found suffering from wounds as result of the hit, while the driver who caused the accident was not in the place,” he added.
The crime scene team also attended to examine the scene, and also the national ambulance, where the paramedics provided woman who sustained medium injuries with the necessary treatment before transferring her to the hospital for further medical treatment.
He continued, “A competent team has been immediately entrusted to identify and arrest the driver who caused the accident. After analyzing circumstances of the incident, the team was able to identify the doer.”
The driver is known as S.H in his 20s and his car was found with signs of the hit. Accordingly, he has been detained at the police station until procedures are completed.
Col. Saeed Bin Aran appealed to road users to pay attention, focus while driving and not to be preoccupied with other things, because this may cause accidents and harm others.
