Sultan attends AUS Fall 2019 commencement ceremony

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the American University of Sharjah, AUS, affirmed the university’s commitment to providing students with the necessary skill set to compete globally in the 21st Century. This is evident via the accomplishments of its graduates, His Highness added.

The Sharjah Ruler’s remarks came during the AUS Fall 2019 Commencement Ceremony which took place on Saturday morning at the University City Hall in Sharjah. Some 567 students graduated from various disciplines including engineering, business studies, the arts, architecture and design.

“The American University of Sharjah continues to take steady steps towards achieving our vision and goals; one of the most important of which is to provide an opportunity for our sons and daughters from Sharjah and abroad to study, advance their knowledge, and build their intellectual abilities that allow them to distinguish themselves throughout their careers.”

Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad went on to congratulate the graduands, adding, “Today we are happy to see the joy on the faces of our sons and daughters, the graduates, why the reap the fruits of their tireless efforts throughout their years of schooling.”

His Highness then wished them continued success on their life endeavours.

Sharjah Film Platform

Dr Sheikh Sultan attended the closing ceremony of the second edition of the annual Sharjah Film Platform on December, 2019.

The ceremony began with arrival of His Highness who was received by Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, Sheikha Nawar Al Qasimi, Director of  Sharjah Art Foundation, Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, Dr. Khaled Omar Al-Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City, Manal Ataya, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, and a number of officials and representatives of the sponsoring bodies of the platform.

The closing ceremony featured the announcement of the three Sharjah Film Platform awardees, selected by an international jury of filmmakers and film industry professionals.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah honoUred the winners of the awards of the second session of the Sharjah Film Platform. The award for Best Narrative Film went to “Ba’edan Fe Allail” (far away at night) directed by Syed Maysam Ali Shah, and the film “Arad Mubaraka” (blessed land) directed by Fom Ngoc Lan and the film “Atfal Al Buhairah” (children of the lake) directed by Emerson Reyes won the jury awards in the category of narrative films.

The “Lotus” directed by Mohamed Reda Fatndoust was awarded the Best Documentary Film.

While “Telka Al Ghaimah Mafraqtna Qutt” (that cloud, never apart us), directed by Yashawini Ragunandan, was selected as Best Experimental Film.

During the closing ceremony, a documentary film was palyed for the most prominent cinematic works participating in the second edition of the Sharjah Film Platform. The second edition was launched on Dec 14th, with the participation of more than 50 films locally, regionally and internationally, varying between narrative, documentary, and experimental.

Recently, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, dedicated two rare manuscripts to the Islamic Manuscripts House at Al Qasimia University.

The first manuscript is entitled ‘Books of Law in Medicine’ by Abu Ali, Al Hussein bin Abdullah bin Al Hassan bin Ali bin Sina, Al Balkhi and then Al Bukhari, and dates between 370 and 428 AH 980 and 1037 AD and is the first Arab edition in the world to write law books in medicine.

The second manuscript bears the title, ‘The Editing of the Fundamentals of Engineering and Accountability by Euclid’ by Abu Ja’far Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Al Hassan and Nasiruddin Al Tusi, and is one of the first books printed in the Arabic language in the world and dates back to 672 AH and 1274 AD. The book consists of 13 chapters, six of which deal with level engineering and four deal with mathematics, preparation theory, and three with classes in engineering.
