Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, said that the Dubai Police is always keen to meet the needs of the inmates annually in accordance with the international regulations. As it organizes a call for donations for inmates' benefits, which are collected in the donation bank account and from donors, charities and philanthropists.
"The goal is not only to punish inmates but to reform and rehabilitate them in order to transition them back to the community, as well as enable them to support themselves and their families after serving their sentences", Al Shamali added.
From his part, the head of the correctional institutions’ Humanitarian Care Department, Lt. Habib Husain Al Zarouni said that the donations have contributed to improving the living conditions of inmates and their families.
"The aids covered their rental costs, expenses of their children education, expenses of their livelihood and health, payments of monthly pensions, medical subsides like wheelchairs, payments of birth costs and issuance of their birth certificates, provision of child-related necessities, and much other humanitarian assistance." Al Zarouni added.
