Oman's Sultan Qaboos in 'stable condition,' treatment ongoing

Oman's Sultan Qaboos Bin Said is in "stable condition" and continuing a program of medical treatment, state television said on Tuesday, citing a statement from the sultan's office.

Concerns had grown for the sultan's health after he made a short visit to Belgium for medical treatment this month and Omani authorities said nothing about his health after his return.

An outpouring of prayers has flooded social media platforms after news reports suggested that Sultan Qaboos was in very critical condition.

While the heat of discussing the next successor rises in Oman, Sultan Qaboos, who has ruled the country for the past 5 decades successfully, has been having a tough time dealing with his unstable health condition.

Omanis have taken to Twitter and Instagram to pray for the wellbeing of the Ruler.

One user said, "Long live the Ruler..."

Sultan Qaboos was born in 1940 in Salalah.

He has no children and has not made any announcement regarding his successor publicly. However, he disclosed his choice of the next successor and kept it secret in a sealed envelope, which is to be opened after he passes away.

Qaboos has been travelling abroad several times to get treated for his long-term illness.

After having served the British army in his younger days, Qaboos continued to have a great relationship with the Gulf countries.

Oman’s contribution to the Arab world is unmatched, to say the least.
