The Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced a maid to three months in jail to be followed by deportation on theft charges.
According to the official records, the defendant was working as a maid in her employer’s house and was doing the usual cleaning work. On the day of the incident, the victim woke up at dawn to discover that the maid was not in the house. The victim checked the house to discover that a gold necklace worth Dhs5,000 plus Dhs2,500 were missing. She knew that it was the maid who stole the necklace and the money because she ran away.
Earlier, the victim gave the maid a mobile phone to call her relatives and friends. The victim found the mobile but discovered that the maid had deleted all messages and contacts on the phone before she ran away.
In another case, an Asian employee, 33, molested an Arab employee, 35, while she was with her mother and children at a children’s toys section in the Dragon Mart, International City.
The victim testified before Dubai Public Prosecution that while she was wandering around at children’s toys section in the International City to buy some toys for her children, she noticed that the defendant was looking at her suspiciously and walking behind her wherever she went. She felt scared but the defendant soon stood behind her and molested her. She shouted at him and rebuffed him for what he did. The shoppers gathered around them and the police came and arrested the defendant.
In a separate case, on Thursday, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to 10 years in jail to be followed by deportation on charges of conniving with other suspects of human trafficking cases, exploitation of a minor girl and forcing her to practise immoral acts.
A second lieutenant of the Dubai Police testified that the head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Department received information alerting that some persons detained a girl and forced her to practise vice.
The police consequently raided the place and arrested the suspects. The police found that the victim was less than 16 years.
It turned out that the suspects brought the victim to the country with a false passport after forging her age in her home country. Then cheated her that that she would work as a maid but when she arrived in the country, she did not find the job and they detained her and forced her to practise vice.
