The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the police to seize phones of members of two WhatsApp groups on which JNU violence was allegedly coordinated.
The court's order came after WhatsApp said they don't store messages on servers but it can be retrieved through users’ phones.
The court directed the police to summon all the members of the two WhatApp groups — Friends of RSS and Unity against Left.
While hearing a petition of 3 JNU professors seeking to preserve CCTV footage, WhatsApp conversations and and other evidence related to January 5 violence, the HC also asked WhatsApp, Google to preserve and provide information sought by the Delhi police in accordance with the law.
The high court also directed the university administration to provide CCTV footage sought by the police.
