DUBAI/ SHARJAH: A 31-year-old man from the Gulf was referred by the Dubai Public Prosecution to the court on charges of forging a GCC driving licence to obtain a UAE driving licence.
A Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) employee testified that the defendant applied to the RTA for replacing his GCC driving licence with a UAE driving licence. The defendant was issued a new Emirati driving licence.
However, after contacting the competent authority that issued driving licences in the defendant’s home country to notify it that the defendant’s licence issued by it was replaced by an Emirati one, a letter was received from the authority stating that the defendant’s original driving licence was not issued by it and was forged.
