The Sharjah Police revealed a new criminal trick used by thieves nowadays to steal money and valuable items, by luring victims to locations that are far from the scope of security surveillance.
Despite the cunning method, the Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department teams were successful in arresting an Asian thief, and returning all the stolen items to the owner.
A robbery was reported by an owner of a gold shop, stating that he was tricked by a man who offered him a great deal for gold bars, worth Dhs108,400. The suspect lured the victim to an apartment in Sharjah to receive the gold, but then ran away after getting the money.
When he was grilled, the suspect confessed to stealing the money and disclosed his plan to flee the country. However, he was detained and referred to the Sharjah Criminal Court.
Brigadier Ibrahim Musabeh Al Ajil, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, pointed out the great efforts made by the security team assigned to follow up on the theft case, and praised the collaboration between several police departments that led to easily identifying the suspect.
“Police teams arrested the suspect while he was trying to cross one of the UAE’s borders,” Brig. Al Ajil said.
Brig. Al Ajil called upon all owners of gold shops to abide by UAE trade laws, and not respond to any tempting deals that are offered in insecure or unknown locations, in order to prevent any tragic incidents from taking place.
