National Ambulance crews responded to a call for a woman in Ajman going into labour and on the verge of giving birth.

National Ambulance Communications Centre (ACC) received a call at 06:47 am from a man stating that his wife had suddenly gone into labour and was about to give birth at their residence in Ajman, adding that he could see the head of the baby.

Immediately the ACC staff dispatched two ambulances and one fast response unit. At the same time, the team alerted the hospital’s emergency department about the case and its expected time of arrival, in order to ensure a smooth handover of the mother and baby and provide them with the appropriate medical care upon their arrival.

The call operator stayed on the phone with the father and started giving him first aid instructions to assist him to deal with the situation at hand and ensure the safety of the wife and baby until the ambulance crews arrived.

The baby could not wait to get to the hospital and, a few minutes after receiving the call, the mother ended up giving birth to her baby boy.

Soon after, the ambulance crews arrived to find the newborn in the arms of his mother and immediately attended to mother and baby, transferring both of them in a stable condition to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman to receive the appropriate medical care.

National Ambulance urges pregnant women to undergo regular visits to the doctor and follow their instructions in terms of the expected date of delivery, true labour signs and symptoms to reduce the probability of facing sudden labour and avoid associated risks of delivering outside hospital environment.
