The video and photos of Pakistan’s Prime Minister and country’s notable religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil avoiding a handshake and greetings, has gone viral on social media on Monday.
Leading by example, Imran avoided shaking hands with Tariq Jamil, when the latter entered the meeting room at PM House as a precautionary measure advised by health experts during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Tariq Jamil called on Imran Khan to discuss measures taken to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Imran requested the renowned cleric to play his role by giving a call for a temporary ban on religious gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus’ outbreak and also to hold special prayers for the country.

“Imran Khan and Maulana Tariq Jamil led by example by taking strict precautionary measures in times of Coronavirus Pandemic. We all need to play our role and avoid handshakes and other physical contact to ensure public health and safety,” tweeted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s office.
The social media was flooded with appreciation for the two leaders for taking precautions.
“So happy to see that PM is practising #SocialDistancing in his office. Others should follow the same,” ZarinaPTI tweeted.
Another social media user AbdullahSpeaks tweeted, “The best public gesture need to be followed by everyone in Pakistan. Social distance with all due manners. More respect for the PM.”
Earlier, Imran said that the coronavirus can be controlled if people start precautions "voluntarily," without panicking.
He has also emphasised the importance of raising awareness among the masses so they can take appropriate precautions to protect themselves from the virus. He further said that the government realises the severity of the situation and will take every measure to tackle the growth of the virus.
