The Dubai Public Prosecution has referred seven Asian men to the criminal court for robbing around Dhs666,000 of different currencies from a cash van that belongs to a money exchange shop.
The seven suspects, including runaway accomplices, received a tip-off about route details and description of the cash van, then assigned each member his role in the heist.
They monitored the van’s movement from Sharjah Airport to Dubai, after which the vehicle stopped at the exchange branch to transfer the daily cash input around 8pm.
The suspect then followed the van in two different vehicles, and surrounded it from the front and back. The front vehicle suddenly cut off the van’s route, forcing its drivers to stop. The three masked suspects then attacked the drivers and broke the vehicle’s windows.
The van’s drivers were threatened with a knife to hand over the money.
One of the victims, the van’s driver, testified that another suspect came out of the second vehicle and assaulted his colleague, while other accomplices stayed in the car watching the surroundings until the robbery was done.
