Court defers case of Asian, girlfriend over assault on cop

The Sharjah Criminal Court adjourned to 5 April, to listen to the statements of the victim, the case of an Asian and his girlfriend who were charged with beating up a policeman on duty, and damaging a police patrol of the Traffic and Patrols Department of Sharjah Police.

According to the investigations of the Public Prosecution, on Nov.9, 2019, the police patrols received a report that a vehicle was being driven dangerously.

Accordingly, the police patrol verified the information, and when the vehicle was found, the police patrol stopped it and the first suspect got out.

A dispute arose between the driver and the policeman, during which the latter beat up the cop, and his girlfriend destroyed the vehicle’s door.

The police charged the driver with assaulting an employee while on duty and destroying a vehicle.

In court, the suspects denied the charges.

The suspects’ lawyer asked the court to check the surveillance cameras at the place at the time of the incident, to see their footage and find out what actually happened.

Earlier, the Sharjah Criminal Court postponed to April 6 the case of an Asian charged with stabbing another twice with a knife, after a fight broke out between them following a dispute to control a liquor site.

The move was meant to inform witnesses of evidence, and to instruct the Public Prosecution to provide data of blood parents, to determine whether they wanted retribution or blood money.

The first witness, working for the Sharjah Police Investigation Department, said that he interrogated the suspect in his Urdu language and he confessed that he was involved in a quarrel between two groups who fought over a liquor site in Industrial Area 17. He stabbed the victim, A.J, twice with a knife, then he and the others fled from the site of the quarrel, but after several days he was arrested.
