Rain forecast in several areas with cloudy weather

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has said that rain will be likely in the country from Saturday until Monday. It also said that the weather today (Saturday) would be partly cloudy to cloudy with a chance of rainfall at intervals over scattered areas, especially over some coastal and northern areas. Moderate to fresh northeasterly to southeasterly winds, especially with the clouds, blowing dust and sand, with a speed of 25–35, reaching 45 km/hr at times were probable. The sea will be moderate to rough especially with cloud activity in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in Oman Sea.  

On Sunday, the weather is expected to be cloudy in general with rainfall over scattered areas, accompanied by lightning and thunder activities at times, according to the NCM.

“Moderate to fresh northeasterly to southeasterly winds, becoming strong at times over the sea, causing blowing dust and sand, with a speed of 25–35, reaching 55km/hr, are likely,” the NCM added.

The waves will be rough to very rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and rough in Oman Sea.

It continued, “The weather on Monday will be cloudy to partly cloudy with rainfall over scattered areas especially northern areas, accompanied by lightning and thunder at times. The temperature tends to decrease, especially westward.”

Fresh southwesterly to northwesterly winds, causing blowing dust and sands, with a speed of 25–35, reaching 45km/hr, it added, noting that the Sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

The National Centre of Meteorology, NCM, has commemorated World Meteorological Day on Mar.23. This year, the day is being celebrated under the slogan, ‘Let us count every drop, because every drop counts’.

Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director of NCM and President of the Regional Association II (Asia) of World Meteorological Organisation, WMO, said, “Through our pioneering rain enhancement research programme, the NCM has been playing an active role in implementing the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership and the objectives of the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 to ensure sustainable and reliable access to water under all circumstances in the UAE. In addition, we have been supporting global efforts to ensure water security by carrying out innovative rain enhancement research and field experimentation that significantly increases precipitation through cloud seeding.”

In his message on the occasion, Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of WMO, highlighted the importance of World Meteorological Day in articulating the WMO’s efforts to improve forecasting, monitoring and the management of water supplies at a time the world is facing increasing challenges posed by water stress, floods, droughts and the lack of access to clean supplies.
