Accidents fall by 84% during sterilisation

The traffic statistics branch of Sharjah Police’s Traffic and Patrols Department, revealed that traffic accidents have decreased by 83.3% since the implementation of the national sterilisation programme.

Lt. Col. Mohammed Allai Al Naqbi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department, said that a number of (4) accidents only has taken place during the recent period of time, comparing to (24) accidents that occurred during the same timeline in 2019.

“No fatal accidents have taken place in Sharjah since the national sterilisation programme has started,” Lt. Col. Al Naqbi said.

In addition, he stated that the commitment shown by people during curfew hours have contributed in the reduction of traffic accidents and maintained the safety and security of all road users.

He stressed that the Traffic and Patrols Department will continue to dispatch police patrols on daily basis before curfew with half an hour, to urge people to stay at home. He finally pointed out that the cooperation of the public reveals their high level of awareness; urging members of the community to work together with the authorities in fighting the spread of COVID-19, and take necessary safety precautions to ensure their welfare.

Recently, Sharjah Police warned the public not to commit offensive actions or behaviours that seek to obstruct the procedures taken to protect the community, or diminish the value of actions taken by those responsible of implementing preventive programmes; whether by saying or committing actions that ridicule community members.

This came in response to a video that was posted to ridicule the efforts made by teams of national sterilisation programme in one of Sharjah’s neighbourhoods. The person who posted the video had also mocked residents of that neighbourhood, and was arrested and referred to the public prosecution to be legally charged for his actions.

The Sharjah Police noted that legal actions will be taken against anyone who posts offensive material or uses an abusive language via social media platforms or any other mean.
