Vehicles’ blaze put out in Sharjah park

The Sharjah Civil Defence’s squads contained a fire that erupted in two vehicles at a car park of a mosque in Sharjah on Thursday afternoon.

The operations room of the Civil Defence Directorate in Sharjah was alerted at 1:59pm about two vehicles that caught fire while being parked at a car park of a mosque located in Al Qara’en area, Sharjah.

The firefighting teams of Muwailah station immediately rushed to the scene, which is also next to the International Private School. 

The flames reportedly gutted the park’s umbrella under which two vehicles were parked. The two vehicles were also gutted, while no casualties were reported, confirmed the Civil Defence.

The firefighting teams were able to contain the fire within 20 minutes, and prevent it from extending to the mosque.

Earlier, the topmost part of an under construction building in Al Qassimiya area of Sharjah, went up in flames on Sunday evening.

Civil Defence team members from Al-Mina, Al-Hamriyah and Samnan arrived at the venue on time to douse the fire.

A Sharjah resident, Jahir Hussain shared the video with Gulf Today.

The building that is still under construction consists of 15 residential floors.

Walls of the building could be seen chipping off due to the fire.

Buildings adjacent to the place of the fire have been evacuated and residents are called upon to avoid that route.

The Civil Defence team have put the fire under control despite difficulties in getting to the top floor.

Last month, a fire broke out in a pick-up truck in Sharjah.

The pick-up was parked near Matajer Al Khan.

Children playing in the area noticed the fire and informed the authorities.

The Sharjah Police and Civil Defence teams immediately arrived at the site. The Civil Defence team members controlled the fire in no time.

It was learnt that there was no one inside the vehicle at the time of the fire.

Eyewitnesses said people and cars parked near the site of the blaze were moved to safety.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

Police have urged motorists to carry out safety checks in their vehicles to avoid such incidents.
