Ramadan E-forum to focus on COVID-19 crisis, impact

A series of E-Lectures organised by the Trends Research & Advisory, Abu Dhabi, during the month of Ramadan will shed the spotlight on lessons, challenges, and opportunities arising out of the COVID-19 crisis and its global impact.

Leading experts from around the world will share their views and analyses on a virtual platform as part of the Centre’s Strategic Dialogue E-Forum, which is central to its mission to produce cutting edge research that helps decision-makers, better understand the challenges of the future.

Dr. Mohamed Al Ali, Director General of Trends Research & Advisory, said that the lecture series will begin on April 29 with a discussion on the prospects and challenges facing oil markets in the post-pandemic world.  The series of virtual lectures will also discuss issues ranging from artificial intelligence to international best practices and cyber-crimes in the wake of the pandemic  E-discussion titled, Artificial Intelligence and Combating Pandemic COVID-19, will be live-streamed on May 6. Dr. Munier Nazzal, Head of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Surgery Division at the University of Toledo Medical Centre, US, and Dr. Sapan Desai, CEO of the Surgisphere Corporation, will address this session.

The panelists during the session will discuss the role of artificial intelligence in managing the COVID-19 crisis. Khalid Al-Kofahi, Vice President and R&D Head of the Centre for AI and Cognitive Computing at Thomson Reuters, will moderate the session.

On May 12, Mariam Al Qubaisi, the Director of Media and Communication Department at the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), and Dr. Victor Cha, Senior Adviser and Korea Chair at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will deliver another e-lecture on the best international practices in tackling COVID-19.

Al Qubaisi will highlight the UAE and the South Korean Model as two examples of successful handling of the pandemic and explore ways to improve international collaborative research.

One of the important questions she will address is whether international organisations can be empowered to take a more interventionist approach to pandemic control.
