The Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah (LSDA) congratulated all workers and employers in the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE in general on the occasion of the International Workers Day, celebrated on May first each year, wishing them health and safety, and for the whole world to overcome the pandemic as soon as possible.
This came in a digital message LSDA sent on Friday to workers through their employers and through short text messages, hoping it will resume soon the usual annual physical celebrations it used to hold on the occasion.
Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Labour Standards Development Authority said, “Our celebration of the Labour Day is attributed to the keen interest of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in the workers for being a major part in the production and development process in Sharjah and the UAE in general, while at the same time ensuring the interests of employers and maintaining the stability of the work environment in Sharjah. "
On this occasion, Qaseer called for maintain the principles of respecting the value of work and the importance of meeting the needs of workers, and to support them especially in these exceptional circumstances, as part of social responsibility.
He called upon the employers to focus on spreading awareness among workers and taking all preventive measures, using digital and physical platforms and maintaining direct and continuous communication channels with them.
He added: "In the current circumstances, we call for the private sector and our society in general to stick to our social human values in treating workers with all due responsibility and respect, hoping that this pandemic will finish soon and we will return to celebrate together these happy occasions."
In light of the global spread of the Coronavirus, COVID-19, the Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah, at the directives of Ruler of Sharjah and direct follow-up of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, started coordination with the concerned authorities in the public and private sectors to support workers and help companies employing workers in maintaining safe working environment and to take the precautionary measures against coronavirus, everywhere in public places, in workplace, and in the labour accommodations.
The Labour Standards Development Authority in Sharjah has intensified awareness campaigns for workers in the Emirate of Sharjah against coronavirus, for their protection, health and safety, and to minimize the risk among them.
The LSDA has been spreading health awareness among workers in Sharjah and delivering to them the latest developments and preventive instructions. It launched an SMS awareness campaign with prevention guidelines targeting workers in their languages and to their locations.
