The Jebel Ali Police Station has arrested 6 Asians for illegally storing 3.5 tonnes of goods inside a labour accommodation, and intending to sell them as street vendors.
Brigadier Dr Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of Jebel Ali Police Station, stated that the arrest was made after receiving information from a trusted source about the presence of three vehicles stocked with various goods, aimed to be illegally sold in markets.
The confiscated merchandise included food products, gifts, clothes, and several smoking products including the Naswar (powdered tobacco).
Al Suwaidi pointed out that the police station immediately dispatched a team to arrest the suspects and confiscate the goods, in collaboration with Dubai Municipality.
“The team rushed to the scene and arrested three of the suspects, and successfully seized the three vehicles loaded with goods,” he said.
The suspects led police to a labor accommodation that belongs to a construction company, and where 3.5 tonnes of goods were hidden in two different rooms.
Three more accomplices were also arrested inside the accommodation while they were getting ready to move the goods to another location.
Al Suwaidi urged the public not to buy products from illegal street vendors, and follow safety and health guidelines set by competent authorities.
Lastly, he emphasised on the keenness of the Dubai Police to monitor and punish those who violate market regulations.
