Under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Khorfakkan Municipality unveiled the “Monument of Khorfakkan Square” which takes the shape of a huge traditional censer on Sunday morning.
The monument was built at the entrance of the historic city of Khorfakkan under the directives of the Ruler of Sharjah to be a symbol of welcoming the city’s guests from all the emirates of the country and tourists from all over the world.
The Khorfakkan Monument was launched by Engineer Salah Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Consultant of the Planning and Surveying Department, Vice-Chairman of the Urban Planning Council, Chairman of the Authority of Initiatives Implementation and Infrastructure Development, AIIID, in the Emirate of Sharjah, “Mubadara,” accompanied by Dr Rashid Arab Al-Naqbi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan, and Eng. Fawzia Rashid Al-Qadi, Director of Khorfakkan Municipality.
The Monument is a 7-metre-high concrete censer with a diameter of 5.9 metres. It is made out of 30 separate pieces that were manufactured separately in the factory, then moved to the square and installed to take that traditional form of censer.
It reflects one of the major cultural symbols of the UAE society, and serves as a tourist façade distinguishing the city of Khorfakkan, along with the city’s famous landmarks near the same site, such as the new Khorfakkan Square with its huge beautiful fountains, the symbol of resistance and the flagpole.
In 2018, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, chaired a meeting of the council at the Ruler’s Office in Sharjah.
