Indian community members as well as members of the medical fraternity mourned the untimely and shocking demise of Dr. Sudhir Rambhau Washimkar, Internal Medicine Specialist and a frontline warrior who was at the forefront in treating and attending to Covid-19 patients at Burjeel Royal Hospital, Al Ain.
The 61-year-old Indian doctor from Indian state of Maharashtra was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at Al Ain Hospital when he breathed his last on Saturday. His funeral was held on Sunday morning.
Dr. Sudhir was tested positive for Covid-19 on May 9. Two days later, he was transferred to Al Ain Hospital.
He was a selfless doctor, who was accessible and available to his patients at all hours. A very jovial person, he had an affable personality and was very diligent and sincere at work. He was very passionate about serving his patients and had upheld the integrity and value of his profession.
Dr. Arun Menon, Regional Director for VPS Healthcare’s Al Ain Region, said the passing away of Dr. Sudhir is a great loss for the institution.
Dr. Sudhir joined Burjeel Royal Hospital as a Specialist Internal Medicine in 2018. A very experienced and skilful doctor, he had always adorned a smile on his face. Humble and gentle, he was a master at his work and one of the most popular doctors in the hospital. He valued his profession the most and was always keen to attend to his patients at any time.
“He was one of the most courageous and bravest frontline warriors at the forefront in giving care to the patients since the beginning of the outbreak of the pandemic in the UAE. The staff at Burjeel Royal Hospital and the entire VPS family will miss him,” he said.
Dr. Sudhir is survived by his wife and two sons.
“Both of Dr. Sudhir’s sons are following the path of their father and are pursuing medicine. This was Dr. Sudhir’s dream. To fulfill this, VPS Healthcare will take up the responsibility of financing the education of the children and will bear the entire cost of about Dhs300,000 annually until the completion of their studies,” added Dr. Arun Menon.
In this hour of grief, the Indian community also expressed its sincere condolences to the bereaved family for their great loss.
