UAE reports 342 new COVID-19 cases, says diabetics at higher risk

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) on Monday announced that it has conducted more than 27,000 COVID-19 tests, which revealed 342 new cases.

This brings the total number of infections recorded in the country to 42,636.

The Ministry also announced that 667 patients of COVID-19 have fully recovered after treatment, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 28,129.

The Ministry also revealed that two people died from the complications of corona infection.

This brings the total number of deaths in the country to 291.

According to the ministry the number of active cases undergoing treatment in the country stands at 14,216 cases so far.

Dr Amna Al Dahhak Al Shamsi, spokesperson for the UAE government said “as our records show that 40% of COVID-19 deaths have been associated with diabetes, we urge the public to pay more attention to groups at risk. These include the elderly and people who have diabetes and other chronic diseases.”

Eng. Fatima Al-Abdouli, spokesperson for Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MoID), said “MoID has launched a smart platform to support government’s efforts in dealing with the coronavirus crisis and its impact. The platform offers data of 3,500 government buildings, with capacity to accommodate 500,000 individuals.”

“Data provided by the smart platform includes the location of each building, its area, facilities, accommodation capacity, surrounding hospitals and medical centers and its readiness at times of crisis,” said Al Abdouli.

“The new platform also offers up to date information about the National Disinfection Program, interactive maps and several other smart tools to support decision making at times of crisis,” she concluded.
