Job portal launched for Pakistani expats

Pakistan government has launched an initiative to facilitate all those who have lost their jobs abroad amid coronavirus crisis.

The move is in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision to provide every possible support to the expatriate community facing problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development announced launch of the online job portal, where all expats who have been laid off can register and avail benefits offered by the government.

Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, special assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development wrote in a Facebook post: "All those who have lost their jobs abroad can register on the following link: https://jobs.oec.gov.pk/returnees_overseas_registration. Government will put you on the priority list for re-employment. It also enables you to get certified training and provides you an opportunity to apply for financial assistance.”

Recently, Imran Khan approved the resumption of international flights after Bukhari raised the matter with him.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning Moeed Yusuf said that all Pakistanis stranded abroad will be brought back in a month.

About 45,000 Pakistanis will be repatriated every week from June 20, and nearly 250 flights will be operated every week, Yusuf said, adding eight airports are operational across the country for the repatriation purpose.
