A Pakistani teenager accidentally shot and killed himself while filming a video for popular video-sharing platform TikTok in Karachi on Sunday.
The deceased, who was 17-year-old, was reportedly filming himself while holding his father’s pistol to his temple when he accidentally pulled the trigger, killing himself on the spot.
According to the city police, the family refused a post-mortem. The body was handed over to the family after the completion of medico-legal formalities.
The police stated that the pistol was licenced and belonged to the boy’s father, a labourer. The police urged the parents to check on children while using smart phones.
The police also stressed that the safety of children at home is the responsibility of parents and a moment of inattention or negligence could lead to the death of a child.
This is not the first time that a life has been lost while filming a TikTok video. In April, a 22-year-old man died after being hit by a train while shooting a video in Karachi.
Separately, in December, a 16-year-old boy, Ammar Haider, was accidentally shot dead while recording a TikTok video with his friends in Sialkot district of Punjab province. The friends told the police that he shot himself by accident, though the deceased’s parents claimed one of his friends shot him.
