Sharjah Municipality announced it would resume collection of public parking fees in the city starting from July 1.
All members of the society were exempted from paying fees for three months, based on a decision issued by the Sharjah Executive Council as part of a package of exemptions and facilities approved to support government and private entities and Emiratis and residents.
The municipality exempted 40,000 parking lots in Sharjah from fees since April 1 for three months in implementation of a decision by the Sharjah Executive Council, Khalid Bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Assistant General Manager for Customer Service Sector, said.
The inspection teams, however, kept checking the parking lots to ensure that they were properly used and to prevent such violations as parking randomly or booking more than one parking lot, based on the municipality’s keenness for the public to benefit from the public parking service all over the city, he added.
Al Suwaidi explained that the municipality would resume levying parking fees from July 1 concurrently with the re-opening of the economic and tourist sectors, which requires public car parks to be provided continuously for all residents and visitors.
Meanwhile, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Director of Public Parking Department, said the municipality would compensate parking card holders whose subscription would expire on July 1 or beyond by adding three months to the expiry date.
As for subscriptions that expire before the above date, a similar period to the remainder would be added to them as of April 1 up to their expiry date, he added, noting that a total of 11,643 subscribers would be compensated.
