UAE reports 387 new coronavirus cases, a death and 365 recoveries

The UAE Ministry of Health announced 387 new coronavirus cases and a death on Saturday.

Dr Amna Al Shamsi, UAE Government spokesperson, and Salem Al Zaabi, Acting Director of the Federal Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Prosecution, gave an update on Coronavirus measures and developments at a news briefing held by government.

The ministry reported 365 recoveries.

Al Shamsi said, “We regret to announce that one person who tested positive for COVID-19 died due to complications. This brings the total death toll to 311. Our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”

Al Shamsi also said, “The total number of recovered cases of Coronavirus has reached 35,834. The currently infected cases of Covid-19 who are undergoing treatment are 11,215.

She said, “UAE health authorities continue to conduct thousands of Covid-19 tests across the country. Additional 52,527 COVID-19 tests were performed on Saturday, revealing 387 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 47,360.

Al Shamsi said, “As we are gradually going back to normal, it is the responsibility of every citizen and resident to continue to follow precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of society.”

Salem Al Zaabi, said, “Following the completion of the National Disinfection Programme, unfortunately we noticed an increase in violations of safety and health instructions put in place by UAE government to curb the spread of COVID-19.”

“We urge the public to comply with the instructions issued by UAE health and security authorities and to follow social distancing guidelines. Violators will be subject to legal action as per UAE Law," Al Zaabi said.

Al Zaabi also said, “We remind the public to continue to avoid social gatherings and family visits and to continue to wear face masks at public places and when leaving home or commuting.”

Al Zaabi said,” The fine will be doubled for those found to be repeating the violation. Third time offenders will be subject to a legal action and could face imprisonment for a period of up to six months or a fine of no less than Dhs100,000.”

The UAE authorities said, “We are proud of the unlimited support and guidance our leadership has provided in combating the spread of Covid-19.”

The authorities also said, “Despite the end to the Programme, return to normality is not danger-free and our gradual journey continues with caution and care.

“Everyone in the UAE is responsible for protecting themselves and wider society in addition to all the government's efforts. Our nation's health remains our key focus.”

The authorities said, “Family visits are limited to visiting first-degree relatives only, taking into account physical distancing, especially with the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases.

Gatherings in public and private places, in homes, farms, and apartments are prohibited, and not following these guidelines will see violators fined.”
