VIDEO: Sharjah Expo Centre to conduct free COVID-19 tests for residents for 3 weeks

Sharjah Police has finished preparing the Expo Centre as a permanent headquarters to conduct free coronavirus checks for Sharjah residents.

The police have announced that the centre has a capacity to examine 3,000 people daily.

The centre will conduct the free tests for a period of 3 weeks.

The Ministry of Health and Community Protection, and in cooperation with the General Command of Sharjah Police, has already started free examination for Al Nahda residents in Sharjah from Sunday morning.

Apart from expo centre, the campaign will run over the course of next 10 days with specific procedures and conditions.

The campaign aims to check on the health status of residents and free them from the virus, by obtaining a free official result.

Major General Saif Al-Zari Al-Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, revealed to Gulf Today, the sister publication of Al Khaleej newspaper, that the leadership is conducting free checks to detect the COVID-19, in all residential areas in the emirate, through a mobile examination tent, with a capacity to receive approximately 400-500 people per day.

Schedule and Regions

Major General Saif Al-Zari Al-Shamsi clarified that the free checks in the emirate started in Al Nahda, through a mobile tent that will be located in Al Nahda Park, as the first step for residential areas in the emirate, provided that checks are completed in the rest of the emirate according to a specific schedule, and conditions were established to ensure protection and safety for all residents of Sharjah.

Upon completion of tests in Al Nahda region, the teams will move to several different regions, that include in a series, Al Qasimiya, Al Nabba, as well as Al Butina, until the completion of all areas of the emirate.

Conditions

The Commander of Sharjah Police indicated that the exams will be conducted for all residents of the emirate according to the specified areas, and exclude teens under the age of 18 years, so that the adult group starting from the age of 18 years and above of the population of the region can conduct the free examination.

Residents must attend the tent and show the Emirates ID card, in addition to the text message sent to them by police as to inform the residents of the area, that includes all the information and the dates of medical examinations.

Dates and Organisation

Major General Saif Al-Zari Al-Shamsi pointed out that mobile tents for tests would open at 10am until 6pm on a daily basis for 10 days, and the duration may decrease depending on examination results.

The test results will be sent to residents via text message.

The screening campaign is not new to Sharjah Police, where the police teams, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, have experiences in implementing those campaigns since its inception in the industrial areas.

97,000 workers screened

Major General Saif Al-Zari confirmed that Sharjah Police conducted several examinations in the industrial areas, supervised by 216 highly qualified officers.

The officers screened 97,645 workers in the Sajaa and Industrial areas.

The workers with positive results were provided ministry’s care with approved procedure, and those who were in contact with the positive people were obliged to apply the home quarantine procedure to limit the spread of the virus and eliminate it.

The Sharjah Charity, UAE Red Crescent, Indian Association Sharjah, and a number of private companies, which provided meals, medication to workers who cannot purchase.

The charities also support workers of financially troubled companies, estimated to be between 1.500 and 3,000 workers, stressing that the first task is to focus on human and fundamental rights for workers under these conditions, salary, insurance were done through follow-up.
