UAE to announce new government structure today

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai said on Saturday that UAE cabinet would merge some ministries on Sunday, at 12 noon.

Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter, “Brothers and Sisters, we announced on May 13, 2020 our intention to review the structure of the UAE government... We promised to make changes... and merge ministries and agencies... to come out with a government that is more flexible, fast and keeping pace with the changes… I have approved the new structure and we will announce it tomorrow at 12 noon, God willing…”

The UAE government in May finalised a series of meetings on a post COVID-19 strategy for the country, that will see a review of current ministerial and government structures, and focus on a two-phase recovery plan.

In a virtual meetings held in May, cabinet assessed the country's post pandemic strategy.

Sheikh Mohammed also tweeted that the UAE will review the structure and size of its government as part of its strategy for dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sheikh Mohammed had said, "We may merge ministries and alter bodies. We will make changes. We need a more agile, flexible and speedy government."

"Anyone who thinks that the world after COVID-19 will be the same as the one before it is mistaken," he said.

The UAE Cabinet in June adopted several decisions related to improving the work of the federal government, supporting various national sectors in minimising the effects of the coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic, and facilitating their services provided to the public during the current crisis.
