Emirati injured in 2017 accident dies

An Emirati, Abdullah Al Nayadi, 23, prepared his papers and went to see his friend Ali Al Nayadi, who came from Abu Dhabi, to apply for a scholarship in 2017. On their way to Dubai, the vehicle they were in swerved, hit the central reservation and overturned. As a result, they sustained serious injuries before Ali died and Abdullah went into a coma. He died on Wednesday following a long medical treatment.

Abdullah’s brother Sultan said he was supposed to go with his elder brother Abdullah to Dubai to apply for a scholarship, adding that he prepared the papers but his brother took the application and left with his friend Ali, who came from Abu Dhabi to accompany him, while he was asleep.

During their trip to Dubai, the vehicle they were in had an accident in Al Hayer in which Abdullah was seriously injured in the brain, Sultan said, adding that the area responsible for awareness was also so substantially affected that he went into a coma.

Six months later, Abdullah’s health condition generally improved and he began to regain his consciousness as shown by his response to the way his family talked with him, Sultan said.

Abdullah’s response sparked hope in his family that everything would back to normal but as Al Ain Hospital was allocated to receive Covid-19 patients, Abdullah had to be transferred to a private hospital, where he suffered from several inflammations that led his health condition to deteriorate and culminated in his death on Wednesday, Sultan said.

In May, an Emirati woman and an 11-year-old child died in a car-truck accident in Abu Dhabi. 

Two other people were seriously injured after a cement mixer truck overturned on a light vehicle in Al Bahia street in Abu Dhabi.

Lt. Col. Dr. Abdullah Al-Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the Traffic Zones Department in the Abu Dhabi Police, stated that the Command and Control Centre received a report stating that an accident took place and the light vehicle was crushed.

The police reached the site of the crash and secured the area.

The injured were taken to a neighbouring hospital for treatment.

The road was cleared for traffic movement.

Major Abdullah Khamis Al-Azizi, Head of the Investigation and Serious Accidents Department in the Traffic Department of External Areas, attributed the accident to excessive speed without observing the road conditions, which led to the falling of the mixer truck on the vehicle.
