Saudi German Hospital, Dubai, save the life of a young Arab national after he was diagnosed with an aortic dissection.
At the beginning, the young man, who did not exceed 30 years old, was admitted to the hospital’s Emergency Department, suffering from severe chest pain after routine exercises in the gym.
Dr Houssein Mustafa, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, did the necessary examinations in record time. Diagnosis showed hypertension and partial aortic dissection, which is the main artery from the heart that supplies blood to the entire body.
The patient was advised by a team of physicians, including cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons, about his unstable condition, which he did not expect due to his young age and constant keenness on exercising, as he had no medical history. However, the patient and his family members realised his critical health condition and agreed to undergo high-risk open-heart surgery.
The surgery was performed by the medical team led by Dr Sameer Diwale, Consultant Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, during which aorta and ascending aorta were successfully replaced by two artificial valves.
Then, the patient was placed on cardiopulmonary bypass to control blood flow during the surgical procedure, which is a very critical period. The surgery lasted for 6 hours and the patient responded well to the surgery. The patient has quickly recovered in the next few days and is now looking forward to returning to his normal life and work soon.
"This case is rare and is considered life-threatening case that must be dealt with promptly, otherwise it would result the patient life at big risk.” Dr Sameer Diwale stated. He added that "Bentall surgery is one of the most complicated open-heart surgeries, but it is life-saving if it is performed in time."
Dr Reem Osman – Group CEO Saudi German Hospitals UAE, appreciated the team for their prompt intervention in saving the life of the patient.
